Tonight: Luna and Lord of the Rings
Written by The Night Sky Guy on February 2, 2010 – 7:13 pm -If you can stay up past 11 tonight you can check out the gorgeous waning gibbous moon rising majestically in the southeast. And if you look carefully you will notice a creamy coloured bright star to its far upper left - that is the ringed planet, Saturn. To see its famous rings however you will need a small telescope.
Both worlds sit inside the constellation Virgo. Something cool to think about when gazing up at Saturn -it lies more than 1.3 billion km away from Earth and it takes light from this planet 1 hour and 13 minutes to reach your eye!
